Description

Bookstock, The Green Mountain Literary Festival, will take place for the fifth year in Woodstock on July 26 - 28. The Festival has just announced its two keynote events, to take place in Town Hall Theater starting at 10 AM, Saturday, July 27.  Go to the Festival website to learn more and sign up for future news.

Rosa Parks:  Heroine of the Civil Rights Movement
Bookstock 2013 starts with a riveting account of the life of Rosa Parks, the most inspiring of 20th Century Civil Rights women crusaders.

On December 1, 1955, Parks refused to move to the back of a public transit bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Her act of defiance kindled civil rights activism that led to the Civil Rights Acts.  But this is only part of Park’s rich story. Few people know of her extensive ties within the civil rights movement.

Parks’ biographer Jeanne Theoharis will be Bookstock’s keynoter at 10 AM, Saturday, July 26 in the Town Hall Theater. Her highly praised book examines Parks’ six decades of activism.

The Revels at Bookstock!

At 11 AM, we celebrate the Revels tradition of performance in song, dance, humor, theatrics and often audience participation. Christmas Revels in many locales, including the Upper Valley, entertain packed audiences of entire families.

Revels North will stage a performance of the Mummers’ Play, which goes back to medieval British times. It’s a short play featuring stock characters talking in rhyme while performing a lot of very funny slapstick. Susan Cooper, one of the Revels’ most famous writers, will join us. Author of The Magic Maker, a biography of Jack Langstaff, founder of the Revels, she is internationally known for her acclaimed series The Dark is Rising, winner of the Newbery award.
